Initiatives from the RAILS Network 🌱

Working Group Updates

Working Group 1 is currently compiling use cases for AI in legal and asks for feedback from the RAILS community by September 26, 2024. 

*Review the draft list.
*Suggest an additional use case.
*Suggest a change to the list, such as an additional example.

Working Group 3 is compiling direct to consumer case studies, guidelines, and a risk/harm and opportunity matrix. Stay tuned for an opportunity soon to provide feedback. 

Working Group 4 recently held their first meeting. They are currently compiling and reviewing AI policies and related documents relevant to in-house counsel. Contact rails@law.duke.edu to join.

In the Courts

  • Ray Brescia examines how courts are developing preventive rules to govern the use of generative AI in legal proceedings, moving beyond traditional punitive measures and potentially offering a model for regulating AI use in other fields.

In Justice Tech

  • Review the companies in LexLab's 2024 Justice Technology Accelerator Program using AI.

In Law Firms

  • Litera describes the adoption of GenAI in law firms in their report which surveyed a group of international legal professionals, noting that document creation and proofreading are described as primary GenAI use cases.
